Creating handmade holiday cards this year? Here’s a Fabulous “How To” lesson with few nifty tips that will help you to create handmade holiday cards.
Prepare
Decide on a deadline. Mark up a calendar and plan time slots for when you would like to work on your cards so that you don’t get overwhelmed. Then visit your local crafts shop and buy card stock paper and matching envelopes for your hand-made holiday cards.
Create
Method 1: Creating each hand-made holiday card one at a time
1. Browse magazines, newspapers, card shops and the Internet and to find design inspiration. Keep your design simple so that you can re-create it easily.
2. Convert a corner of your home into a holiday-card-making factory. Stockpile all art supplies you’ll need – pencils, markers, paints, glue, envelops, card stock, colored paper, ribbon, embellishments, etc.
Method 2: Creating a master handmade holiday card and then using a color photocopier to transfer the design onto card stock
1. Collage Hand-Made Holiday Cards. Go through old paper stock or magazines and find images and colors you like. Tear the paper into irregular, yet coordinating paper shapes. Arrange these paper shapes together over you card to create a collage. Once you’ve found an arrangement you like, glue the items in place. Trim the edges of the paper flush with the card. Add your text greeting. Color photocopy onto card stock.
2. Vintage Photo Hand-Made Holiday Cards. Why not use your hand-made holiday card to showcase an old photograph? Carefully scan your photo into a computer. Print it out, and then use a photocopier to transfer the image onto each of your hand-made holiday cards. Add a caption or greeting. Color photocopy onto card stock.
3. Mosaic Hand-Made Holiday Cards. Browse through old magazines, newspapers and paper stock and find images and colors you like. Cut into different paper squares. Arrange the paper squares in a design on the blank card. Glue in place. To create a tiled look, leave 1/16-inch space between the paper squares. Add text if you wish. Color photocopy onto card stock.
